EMBLEM-Drive DC-motor effect library for complete system design

Virtual Prototyping of complete mechatronic systems to reduce development costs gain more and more significance. EMBLEM is the family of VHDL-AMS model libraries for the mixed-signal multi-lingual simulator SMASH, covering different domains. EMBLEM-Drive is the dedicated part of this library for designs containing DC-motor peripherals and gears. With this library developers are able to simulate complete systems, analyze the influence of the periphery on the electronic system, optimize your application at system level and reduce the number of building expensive prototypes.

Key features

  • Basic physical effect models, i.e.:
    • Inductance
    • Back-EMF
    • Damping
    • Inertia forces and torques
    • Detention and drive torque
    • Friction losses
  • Parameterizable and highly reusable models
  • Symbols for schematic editor
  • Linking in different domains:
    • Electric
    • Mechanic
    • Magnetic
  • Application fields, i.e.
    • Automotive industry
    • System integrators

Product Characteristics

The EMBLEM-Drive library contains basic effect models to model permanent magnet brushless DC motors (PMBDCM), gears and mechanical connections, like they are used e.g. in computers Hard Disk Drives, Cooling Fan applications or automotive applications like window regulators.

All models are port-compatible to the EMBLEM-Mecha library which covers models of basic physical electromechanical effects targeting not only to model all kind of MEMS but also to model electromechanical devices of macro scale.

Both libraries contain symbols for each model to be used with a schematic editor to ease the system modeling thanks to an automatic net-listing.

With SMASH and the EMBLEM libraries designers are able to simulate complete mechatronic systems in a single simulator and so bypasses error-prone simulator couplings, analyze the influence of the periphery on the electronic system and build Virtual Prototypes of complete systems with a high accuracy and benefit of shortened design cycles. Save your time and money and speed up the time-to-market.
